    Keep on truckin’

Greetings. Welcome back. For a bit of a change, I’m heading back to a blog post about games. Well, *a* game at least. Growing up, back in the day, I played the heck out of a little game called Elite 2 : Frontier. This was an excellent little game from a development team based in the UK and I remember it coming on a couple of floppy disks for the Amiga. Inside these few floppies was the sequel to a game pretty much as old as ome gaming gets, both that game and it’s sequel were

I feel the need… the need for speed.

Right, I’m falling behind with this ‘at least one blog post a month’ stuff. We are rapidly heading into the end of May and I haven’t done a post. (Phew, just did it…this month – must do better in June) So the last month or so I’ve had two games from my rental company. First up, the rebooted Need for Speed form 2016. I used to love me a good Need for Speed (NFS) game back in the day (and I’m an old enough gamer to remember the first NFS game as well as the various sequels). My

    Through the Looking glass

Seven years ago EA and DICE games locked Assassin’s Creed and a futuristic parkour setting in a room and released the resulting product out into the world. The year was 2010, and Mirror’s Edge received mixed reviews. The problem was, that the games media thought it was a first person shooter – FPS (and lets be generous to DICE – that’s kind of how EA marketed it). Being polite to the developers, the combat in the game was crap. However, the running and jumping was twitchy and

    Far Cry from Prime

Far  Cry. It’s a long while since I was excited about a Far Cry game. I’m not sure how long ago it was but it was 2004 when the first game was released. As I was back in the PC gaming fold (after my dalliance with early consoles – I had a new job and money to spend on new kit) I was excited. It was one of the first games I remember that used (the then fairly new) pixel shader technology and a new swanky graphics card. Back when Crytek developed the IP. Before the days of Ubis

Hey everyone, I’m back. So far I’m doing okay in this challenge to write at least one post per month. This is February, so with this post I’m two for two so far… Right, this is quite a quick post with something more substantial to follow later in the month (hopefully). I want to talk about a service called Boomerang (no – not the cartoon network I remember from the late 1990s but www.boomerangrentals.co.uk). I’m sure that plenty of gamers out there have heard of this service,

Final fantasy 15. Yes, we know it’s a ridiculous title. Yes, there is *another* instalment of one of the longest running game series. But…. How many games reach 15 numbered releases? (Not including X-2 or all the versions/sequels of 13 , or any of the subtitled games *and* includes two attempts at online only massively multiplayer games – 11 and 14) How many game series run for pretty much three decades? (The first Final Fantasy game was released in Japan in 1987) How many ga

    Where did everybody go?

Greetings. The game I want to write about this time out is a game that has been around for a while with many high score reviews, so for what it is worth, here are my thoughts on the strange experience that is Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. So first up explanation time, I didn’t play this game on my own. I shared the experience with my other half, Claire. After explaining the game to her and after we had enjoyed playing Gone Home she seemed interested, and as it was one of t

    Deus Ex Machina?

So, to start this whole “Year of posts” thing off here’s my first thoughts on the game I received for Christmas, Deux Ex: Mankind Divided. Those of you who have been listening to my rambling on games since I was a little person will know that I have a real soft spot for Deus Ex games. The first game from 2000 is one of my all time favourite games and unlike popular opinion I didn’t mind the second one (yes, the interface and augments in Invisible War were dumbed down some for

    It is your Destiny…

Sorry, this isn’t a post about Star Wars. No Darth Vader for the time being. Although there might be some Star Wars coming soon (sort of). So for the last few weeks I’ve been pottering about with games (I’ll come back in a few days to write a post about my main game) but at the moment I’ve been back to what appears to have become a bit of a classic. Destiny My colleague and some time *Inbetweeners voice* online gamer friend, Phil, finally cracked and bought a PS4. Brilliant.

    How low can you go?

So, next up on my indie kick was an interesting one. Limbo. Okay, so this one is dead easy to explain, but much harder to understand. A simple platform and puzzle game that is presented in beautiful monochrome. The world begins by introducing you to simple platforming puzzles – jump here, pull this lever and so on. Although it steadily gets more complicated involving levers, platforms, inverting the world. It even has climbing sections and sections that auto scroll, normally

    Moore’s Law

After I’d had my fill of Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris I decided I would try out a little game called Transistor. This title was put together by the people who brought you Bastion, so it has some pedigree. I never played Bastion, but after a cursory internet search, it seemed that transistor sounded like just my cup of tea. Turn based, SF, strategy action RPG by a team known for their story driven games? I’m in. Here’s the blurb from Supergiant’s website… Transistor is

    Temple of doom?

Hey out there to the world of people and the few who read the drivel I write. Today I’m going to write about a game and the reason behind why they are the games I’ve been playing recently. Over the last few months we have had the usual post Christmas slump in exciting new games and as such I’ve not had a huge amount to get excited about in the world of games. Everyone has been super hyped for things like Uncharted 4 and Doom. Neither of which particularly interest me. I’ve ne

    Do you remember the time..?

Do you remember the time…? When I played that game? You know…the one with the thing? No? Actually neither do I. Must do something about that… I have to admit that I need to thank Phil for this one. In the run up to Christmas and the new year we discussed a blog post reviewing what we had played through the year (Which Phil did – link). I never got around to it. Mostly because my memory is rubbish. Here is the link to mine – Link It’s nothing special and is mostly for my own

    Asa…Assas…to kill a guy…

Hey guys, it’s been a while. I know it’s been a while. Sorry. No excuses… Well, not really no excuses. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. That’s enough of an excuse. For a complete lack of anything apart from playing Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Okay. So Let’s start at the beginning. Christmas morning, 25th December. I open my usual PS4-game shaped present and oh look, it’s the new Assassin’s Creed game. In what has become a bit of a tradition, every Christmas one of my presents from
