I spi with my little eye…

Sebcam. A word that sounds ridiculous. Made up. Well, that’s because it is. A word that makes sense to a few (probably both of you reading this post) but I’ll explain it for any who don’t know… and I’m sorry, for my casual reader it might get a bit techy (like that’s a surprise) Many years ago I was gifted a fish tank (long story) and a fish, who my brother had named Seb (although I am still to this day unsure if he’d caught the 2012 bug and named the fish after Seb Coe or

    Pi in the Sky

A few years ago, as part of a project I worked on, we sent a GoPro camera into the sky above the town centre here in Hull. A wonderful time was had by all, the young people were having fun seeing their city from a strange and new angle. Until, the giant red helium balloon made it’s escape (long story). I sat on the idea until this year when I was asked if I could do something over the summer holidays with the young people of Hull. “I could do some sort of balloon mapping phot

    Pi Fidelity

Hello, I’ve got a short follow up post from the last post regarding adding an Envirophat to the PI 3 in the living room. Short summary is that I added an Envirophat to the Raspberry Pi 3 in the living room and pulled the temperature and light data every two minutes. by outputting that data to a text file I would be able to import those numbers into something else at a later point. I hinted in that post that Claire and I went to a thing. Well now I can write a little more abou

    More millinery..

Hey. Another coding post I’m afraid (and I suspect the next post will also be code related to some extent). This will probably be a quick post, with hopefully a longer, more detailed post to follow…it will make sense. Maybe. So, on Thursday evening, Claire and I went to a thing. A really interesting thing that has kind of inspired me to do something a bit different. As a result of this I wanted to try and gather a bit of data from the Raspberry Pi and envirophat I have from t

    Mad hatter coding

I may have mentioned before that as a librarian I work at Hull Libraries (City of Culture this year don’t you know) and on Saturday this week we held our latest Raspberry Jam session in the library. Billed as an inventors weekend we had a number of people who had developed their own tools and toys. One gentleman had one of those buzzer toys where you follow the winding wire with a circle (I’m not brave enough to share the video of my other half playing and beating this) and w

    Johnny 5 is alive

Most of you will know that I work in a library. I’m a librarian (the clue is in the blog title) and it’s not really any secret that I’m a bit of a tech geek. The other day I received an email from one of our grownups asking if I’d be up for a day workshop. The workshop was at C4di – the swanky new Centre for Digital Innovation in Hull – and involved the building of a robot in a day. Sign me up. I’m in. Yes please. The workshop was run by a gentleman called Rob Miles, some tim

“WordPress”. Single word that should be simple, should be easy. Except, maybe my complaint should be “php”… or maybe it should just be “me”… Installing WordPress to move my old site across to my new site should have been easy and straightforward. and it was, up to a point. That point is when it was supposed to throw up a screen that lets you do everything else from the web, rather than a command prompt. Except it didn’t. A quick chat with @philcoooper (again) and we worked ou

    It’s working…It’s working!

Hi, Things have been a bit quiet on here of late. There is a simple reason for that. I’ve been playing about with trying to get my own website up and running. As you can see I have finally succeeded. Well, kind of. What you are now looking at is my own hosted website. Admittedly it is a WordPress thing but it is sitting on my own home network on my own hardware. I’m pretty chuffed. As some of you may know I’ve been mucking about on my Raspberry Pi as a kind of learning tool.
